Dear Yeow

i am so ENCOURAGED that there are people like YOU and Andrew and all the other wonderful souls in the Veg Society of Singapore. Let me share something that Joyce Low of Kampung Senang told me re WHY she (and her family) turned Vegetarian.

It was on a business trip to China (Joyce was a banker with HongKong bank) when she saw at the marketplace, slaughtered Pigs> hanging (i think she said Pig not Dog) and it had TEARS in its eyes. She was so MOVED...she changed INSTANTLY. And yes, you are Correct about Abbatoires...

When Peter Proctor (Biodynamic> >field consultant) was still a dairy farmer - he had to bring his calves to the abbatoir (as is customary so the lactating cows can produce ALL its milk for us humans) - one time, there was no one at its entrance to receive him so he had to bring the calves into the slaughter house itself. The SIGHT of it so SICKENED him that Peter turned Vegetarian instantly - and has been Vegetarian for now over 40 years (he is 70+ ) and one of the speakers i recommended.

we have actual footages of animal slaughtering on vcd. some are from the west (US), some from the east (taiwan). u can see its a question which is horrific n which is worse.

why do we think abattoirs will never allow filming of the ongoing inside? ... n its bad for the multi-million $ business. also for that reason, abattoirs are built far from public contact, it's bad enough when slaughtering is done correctly, the "right way". (with stunning, of which there r various methods) in some cases, rules are flouted (to save cost n time. from the slaughterman's perspectiv... "the animals are going to die anyway, what's the point of trying to be nice? Let's b practical!"). n no stunning is used. the screaming pigs are stabbed fully conscious n left to run, scream n suffocate in their own blood. these perfectly innocent and defenceless animals receive the worse punishment on earth.

we could checkout the farms and abattoirs, but even if animals are breed in airconditioned-perfumed filled spacious farms and hv a kind of euphoria induced in the moment of slaughter , (god knows how this possible!) it stil wont be right. bec it is not ethical to prolong/enhance our lives by shortening/manipulating the lives of others.

reality: singapore consumes abt 3 000 pigs PER DAY, abt 250 000 chickens per day... and there's cattle, ducks. EVERY DAY. it is the dark side of humanity we pretend doesn't exist. we deny it vehemently. it is this greatest inhumanity on earth. it will also be our greatest backlash! we are already seeing it. diseases/cancer, violence/war, weather conditions.
the entire episode is unnecessary. if we want to help humans/the earth/bring peace... help animals first.

the tastiness in meats is a delusion. it's the seasoning we stuff into meats that make it seemingly good. we've just been brainwashed/conditioned since day-one to think that meat is good and necessary.

i could go on. it's for these reasons that many people in the world, like myself, are willing dedicate our lives to stop this madness. to live for this cause alone makes a life well spent. it's for these reasons that i searched for a veg society to put my energy into. because i realised that alone my efforts are limited. if the like minded can collaborate, we can effect huge changes (global), set things right for animals, the earth ...and humans, n put an end to this absurdity.
